Obituary of Robert Snyder

ROBERT (BOB) WILLIAM SNYDER April 9, 1945 – April 11, 2012 "After eight months battling glioblastoma (brain cancer) with courage, faith, and hope, Bob was taken from us peacefully on April 11th, 2012 at home in his sleep two days after his 67th birthday, with family at his side. Bob was born and spent his formative years in Elmwood. Survived by his wife of 39 years, Leslie, sons, Jonathon and Stephen, and brother Eric (Helen) of Ottawa. Predeceased by Father & Mother, Eric Sr. and Rose (Kull) Snyder. After graduating from Red River Community College in Computer Science, "Dr Bob" (the nickname his co-workers gave him) had a twenty-five year long career with Wawanesa Insurance in Winnipeg. Bob & Leslie raised 2 sons, Jon and Steven in North Kildonan. Bob & Les enjoyed many years of ten pin bowling with the Chateau 59ers. Bob and son Jon bowled with the German Club. After retirement, Bob enjoyed continuing to develop his computer skills and bird watching at the many feeders in their garden. He loved snowbirding on St. Simons Island Georgia in winters, spending time with brother Eric (Helen) and cousins Marge & Buck, basking in the tropical sun, and enjoying the birds, bike rides, and peaceful sunsets. The family extends our heartfelt gratitude and love to all the many kind souls who helped Bob and his family through this difficult struggle. Dr. Jones, Kim, and Orit from Cancer Care Manitoba, Timmalee and Nicole from Family Services, and those always on call at Palliative Care. There were so many supportive people in our corner during this time that if I forgot a name here, I have not forgotten you in my heart. Thank you all." A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue with interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
