MARY NEMIS

Obituary of MARY NEMIS

MARY (MARIA) NEMIS It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Nemis, at age 85 years on Monday, April 14, 2014, surrounded by her family at Seven Oaks Hospital. Mary was born in Meleb, Manitoba on October 25, 1928 to Eugenia (Osipa) and Anthony Bilyk. She grew up on the family farm before moving to Winnipeg, where she lived until her passing. Mary was a kind, strong, honest, and hard-working woman, who lived for and through her family. Mary was an avid sewer, and when not employed as a seamstress, was busy designing and custom sewing for others, and later in life with her shared passion for quilting. Predeceased by her brother Michael Bilyk in 1958, left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Rosanne Nemis Church, brothers, Steve, Morris, and Walter Bilyk, sister Ollie Melnyk, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Mary also leaves many friends, including Sylvia Sitar, a cherished friendship that spanned a life time. In keeping with her wishes, a family funeral service was held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Cropo Funeral Chapel in Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Gene Maximiuk officiating. Interment followed at All Saints Cemetery, where she was buried next to her mother. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. “Mom was a woman of faith, hope, and love…and will live on forever in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved her. Vichnaya Pam’yat.”
