Obituary of PETER SMOLEY

PETER SMOLEY October 25, 1922 - April 14, 2014 Winnipeg with family friend Maurice Yurkiw officiating. Peter Smoley - father, grandfather and great-grandfather peacefully passed away at age 91 on April 14, 2014. He is survived by his four sons: Ronald (Sylvia); Doug (Joanne); John and Gerald (Joyce). Grand-children are Gregory, Christopher, Daniel, Brian, Kimberly, David, Jeffrey and Kevin, with great-grandchildren Xavier and Benjamin. He was predeceased by his wife Marion in 2011. He was the last of his brothers and sisters. Peter was born in Ladywood, MB, who married Marion in 1951 and worked their farm in Walkleyburg until 1957. He spent a couple of years in Saskatoon before returning to live in Winnipeg in 1960. Dad held a variety of positions: farmer, woodcutter, landlord, construction worker, maintenance man, custodian for the City of Winnipeg and River East School Division, Cook on CN trains and forklift operator at CN shops, and eventually retired as a School Bus Driver with the River East School Division in 1989. Father was an industrious individual with many life skills and lots of energy, leaving very few projects unfinished. He always had time for family and was an active person who enjoyed outdoor activities, travelling, dancing, fishing, cooking for family, staying at the cottage and finding time to help friends and family. His competitive nature was always pushing him and it forced you to keep up. He was an independent individual, ready to lead and willing to take on the load, which left you with a strong impression of who he was. He led by example. A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.,
