Obituary of EVA ZELENY

EVA ZELENY (NEE SKOROPAD) October 20, 1921 – July 19, 2014 It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Eva. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2009. Left to cherish her memory forever are her two daughters Anna (Don) of Winnipeg, Maria (Jim) of Morden, MB; her grandchildren Loren (David) Kelly (Luke) Julie (Jamie) and Chrissy. Also left to mourn are her great-grandson Jayden and great-granddaughter Neko as well as many family members in Ukraine. Eva was born in the village of Kamjanka, Lisna, Ukraine on October 20, 1921. She spent her childhood in Ukraine and young adulthood in Germany. She married John in 1947. He immigrated to Canada first to work as a miner in Bissett, MB. and later Mom made the difficult journey alone by ship with her two young daughters. Eva was an extremely hard worker. She worked as a seamstress for United Garments for over 30 years. Together with her husband John they made a good life for themselves and their children. She set an example of hard work and courage. Mom was a very loving and generous woman who was the centre of our family. She never forgot anyone’s birthday or anniversary and was interested in everything her family did. Mom was very friendly and outgoing with a beautiful smile and twinkling blue eyes. She was a strong-willed, independent woman and her family quickly learned that there was only one way to do things and that was “Baba’s Way”. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious perogies and famous gravy. Mom loved gardening and could make anything grow. As of December 2013 Mom was in Holy Family Home. The family wishes to thank the St. Mary’s Ward staff for their wonderful care. Mom, we will cherish your memory in our hearts forever. Rest in peace and know that we were honoured and privileged to have had you for a Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Thank you for everything and forever in our hearts you will be. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir & Olga, 115 McGregor Street. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street. Donations can be made in Eva’s memory to a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAM’YAT Rest in Peace
