PATRICIA HORVATH

Obituary of PATRICIA ANN HORVATH

Patricia Ann Horvath (nee McCallum) Patricia Ann Horvath came into this world September 16, 1936 surrounded by the loving embrace of family. She enjoyed a fun filled and busy childhood with family, friends and extended family in and around Winnipeg. As a child and teenager she enjoyed sports and spoke of her love of figure skating. Patricia lovingly remembered her time involved with Jobe’s Daughters where she was a past honored Queen. Pat started her career working in Winnipeg for Searle Grain where she made many lasting friendships, along with meeting her future husband George. As a young couple they spent time with friends and family, often telling tales of friends, parties and the beach. George and Pat married in September 1961 and settled in West Kildonan where they spent the next 52 years. Her career eventually drew her to the Underwriters Adjustment Bureau. She embraced new challenges, new friends and happily worked there until the birth of her children. Oddly enough she returned there 16 years later and remained until her retirement. Pat and George had two sons. The boys were blessed to have such a loving, dedicated and supportive Mother. She volunteered at their schools and community centres, helping whenever needed. She was an avid fan of her sons’ sports, especially hockey, a love she inherited from her father. Pat was even a great fan of David’s kickboxing career, despite being his biggest supporter nobody could actually make her watch. She loved watching sports, golf, curling and the Blue Bombers were her passions. And you could catch a random elbow if you sat near her when the original Jets were playing. Pat and George developed an almost fanatical love of mushroom picking and canning. This combined with pickled beets, dills, salsa and shortbread cookies made a goody basket from the Horvath’s a treasured item. Before her Mother’s passing her and Pat regularly frequented the local bingo halls, this later translated to Pat and George giving and taking from any casino they could get to. But for Pat her greatest love was her family. She loved and was proud of both of her boys. Friends and family were always regaled of their latest achievements. In her eyes however their greatest achievements and her greatest joys were her grandchildren. Nana loved and doted over all her grandkids. Her happiest times and biggest smiles revolved around those three. She enjoyed watching and playing, and hearing about every aspect of their young worlds, she loved them all dearly. Nana had a particularly close bond with her eldest grandchild Brooke. If you define love as caring more for others than yourself then Pat personified love. She was a caregiver. She was our Patsy, Pat, Mom, Nana, Auntie. Her loss leaves us a void we can never hope to fill. Pat was predeceased by her parents Samuel and Mary (Nellie) McCallum. She leaves to mourn her loss George her husband of nearly 53 years, her sons David (Monika), Trevor (Tara), her three beloved grandchildren Brooke, Darius and Emerson, and her brother Gary (Joan). After a short illness Patricia Ann Horvath passed from this world on August 14, 2014 surrounded by the loving embrace of family. The family would like to thank the HSC emergency room surgical team and in particular the SICU staff. Their care was outstanding, their caring exemplary. A cremation has taken place, a celebration of Pat’s life is planned for September 16, 2014 at Cropo’s Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.
