Obituary of MARILYN PATRICIA JOPKA

It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Marilyn Patricia Jopka (nee Macfadden) on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Marilyn is survived by her loving daughter Jennifer; mother in-law Olga; sister Georgi; brother Lachie (Willeen); brother Doug (Vicki); brother in-law Wally (Verla); and sister in-law Marlene. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews that she loved dearly. Marilyn was predeceased by her much loved husband John; mother Daisy; father in-law Steve; and sister in-law Joyce. Marilyn was born in Geraldton, Ontario on December 25, 1953 and spent her early years in Sudbury, Ontario. The family moved to Winnipeg in the summer of 1967 and settled in the west end on Furby St. She attended Gordon Bell High School and upon graduating from grade 12, Marilyn entered the work force first working at Dominion Electric and then spent the rest of her working career at M.T.S. in customer service until she retired. Marilyn enjoyed curling, golf, camping and her two passions were gardening and ceramics which she did for many years. She was a great animal lover having numerous cats over the years. It was her Christmas Eve birthday dinner she had for John and the families every year where she really excelled, as Marilyn was an excellent cook and baker. You would never want for food at any dinner she hosted. The families would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at both the Victoria Hospital and the St. Boniface Hospital I.C.U. Their compassion and care for her wellbeing was unparalleled. Cremation has already taken place. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. with interment to follow in Thomson in the Park. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Arthritis Society.
