Obituary of MARYANN MARGUERITE GEBEL

MARYANN MARGUERITE GEBEL (NEE DECOCK-ORLOWSKI) July 18, 1942 – January 20, 2015 On January 20, 2015, holding Henry’s hand, Maryann peacefully left this life. Maryann leaves behind her loving husband Henry, daughters Christine, O.L.M., Cathy (Kelly) and granddaughter Nikki. She was predeceased by her parents Fernand Decock, Elsie Decock and Walter Orlowski; brother Andrew; infants Louise, Peter and Paul. Maryann grew up in St. Boniface. She married Henry on September 3, 1960. She was active in church activities-Rosary group, teaching Sunday School, CWL, Reader and Eucharist Minister. While Christine and Cathy were growing up Maryann was always involved in their activities-Campfire Girl Leader, PTA member, Room Mother for many grades. She worked for Eaton’s and Age and Opportunity. Maryann also volunteered for many years with Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba and was an Associate of the Good Shepherd Sisters for over 20 years. She was a multi-talented needle worker, crochet, knitting, quilting and sewing. All her life Maryann loved being around young children and was thrilled to become “Oma” to Nikki in 2000. She saved her last “I love you” and smile just for Nikki. Our thanks to all the kind people who supported Maryann at CancerCare, Home Care, River Ridge Retirement Home and Riverview Health Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Avenue. Interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maryann’s favourite charity, Our Lady’s Missionaries – www.ourladymissionaries.com.
