Obituary of MIKE KRYSKO

MIKE KRYSKO It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mike Krysko on May 13, 2015 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Dad was born August 8, 1924 in Prawda, Manitoba and was the fifth of ten children. His family resided on the farm in Prawda and he attended Birch River School up to the age of 10 then Beauty Park School which was built on the farm yard, Dad went there till he was 15. Dad worked in the bush during the winter, until he was called to the Army at the age of 18 years. After his medical, he was told to return to the farm and look after his parents. Dad would go work in the mine to make money to keep the farm going, in the summer he worked on the farm, as years went by Dad worked many places. Dad worked at cleaning bush where Falcon Lake is now, worked at the saw mill, drove truck, hauling gravel to north of Pine Falls, then hauling pulpwood to Kenora, Ontario. During the summer Dad helped to build the # 1 Highway going East, at the same time helping on the farm, looking after his parents. When no work was to be gotten near the farm Dad went to the city to work for Canada Packers, then worked for the CPR. ln 1959 Dad met the love of his life Jean and in 1961 they were married. With Dad’s new life ahead of him, he decided to move his parents to the city for a more comfortable life for them. ln 1961 Dad started to work for Continental Can till 1989 when he retired. Dad joined St. lvan Suchavsky Church where he held many positions: Secretary for the Church for 8 years, Secretary for the Brotherhood for 5 years, Dad was on the Board of Directors. Dad loved to garden, both at home and at the cottage, finding that the cottage was taking up most of his time Dad and Mom sold the cottage, started to enjoy traveling, most of the trips were by car, with Mom at the wheel, they traveled to Las Vegas, Toronto, Vancouver BC, Radium Hot Springs BC, Calgary then to Whitehorse, Yukon to visit Mom’s uncle. Dad and Mom sold their house in1993 moved to Watt St., Oakland Ave. and Sarina Towers. As time went by Dad's health was slowly failing and traveling far was out of the question, but he enjoyed his trips to the Casino. ln April of 2011, Dad was admitted to Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Dad is survived by his beloved wife Jean, two weeks short of 54-years; son Fred of Calgary, two step daughters that he raised as his own Beverly Ptosnick, Debbie Smith; grandson Brian Ptosnick all of Winnipeg; brothers Nick and Henry; sisters Kay, Stella and Ann of Toronto. We would like to thank Dad’s neighbour Mr. Len St. Marie for all his kindness at Sarina Towers and staff at Middlechurch , Helen Rose, Brenda and Rita. Dad was predeceased by his mother Nettie in 1976; father Joseph in 1971; sister Mary in 1995; brothers John in 1975 and Frank in 2004. Cremation has taken place at Dad’s request. A Memorial Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Tuesday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. KHRYSTOS VOSKRES!
