Obituary of KAROLY (CHARLIE) KOVACS

KAROLY (CHARLIE) KOVACS April 7, 1930 – July 4, 2015 Peacefully, after being lovingly cared for by his wife Julianna and daughter Julia, “Karsci” joined his many family and friends in Heaven. He was predeceased by mother Julan, father Karoly, siblings Ella, Frank and Bela. He will be deeply missed by his beloved and devoted wife Julianna, daughter Julia and by extended family in Hungary. Karoly was born April 7, 1930 in Szatmarcseke, Hungary where he grew up and attended school. He moved to Miskolc where he met and fell in love with the love of his life Julianna. After marriage, they immigrated to Winnipeg during the Hungarian Revolution where they made their home and raised their daughter Julia. Karcsi worked many years for Kodiak Construction and loved his job. At home he worked equally as hard nurturing his pepper and tomato plants which he readily gave away to friends – reminding them his peppers were the biggest and the best. He was an active member of the Hungarian United Church for more than 50 years. He loved his cottage and sitting by the lake watching his family fish while he enjoyed telling a story or a joke. Karcsi was a friend to everyone with a generous and loving soul that will be dearly missed. Thank you to the nurses and staff at Seven Oaks ICU, 3rd floor, 5th floor for your kindness and compassion. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
